Hi Guys,

Getting ready to reinstall the engine in my Viper.

My question is, is there any way to test the oil pump without the engine running? The previous owner stated that he believes the pump locked up causing the engine failure. I know the pumps are designed to fail wide open however I found no signs of excessive oil in the case.

I just want to be sure the pump is working correctly. I don't want to take any chances...

Thanks in advance,

Correct me if im wrong, but i think that is partially the reason for mixing oil in with the first tank of fuel. Just prime it the best you can, mix some in with the gas, mark the level on the oil tank with a sharpie and make sure the level drops on your first ride. There might be others who can tell you a mechanical way of doing it, but i dont know of one.

I.M.O. Most, "oil pump failures" are poor maintenance, dirty carb. jets, old/bad fuel. Like said above I would mix a little 80:1 to run while you start the sled, then let it idle and pull the oil pump cable out to the max just like if it was running W.O.T. and you will quickly see the oil moving in the lines and excessive exhaust smoke.

Well said ;)!

Thanks for the insight, guys. I do appreciate it!

I can't wait to get this thing running finally. :letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow

Let us know how it goes!

Will do.

However, I think I need to find some help getting the motor back in the sled. It was quite a bit easier taking it out piece-by-piece haha

I pulled and put mine back in totally assembled! Not an easy task alone.

Agreed. I was going to buy one of those electric hoists from Harbor Freight, but after considering everything else I would need to mount it to my garage ceiling I just can't fathom spending $200+ for something I'll probably only use once or twice.
