I doing my top end on my 1998 SRX 700 and im at a stopping point cause the new piston kit for the one CYL. that im replacing has a thicker piston pin then the other two stock pins. So while im waiting to see what everyone thinks about using this pin or not im finding out if i should use Yamalube 4 on the metal base gasket.
So should i put a thin layer of Yamalube 4 on the gasket or should i use something else?
Any help on these two problems im at would help alot, I do outboards and they are a little diff then them, so im asking before i find out the hard way and costly way!
THANKS

Just make sure everything is clean put the gasket on tourqe it down to spec u wont have a problem just did a v max 700 no issues

the old stock one looks like it had a small amount of gray sealer on it. But the crank was welded at one point, maybe they did the sealer on the gasket when they had the crank welded or did they start to do this straight from the factory.
I dont want to do this job twice or have one of my rebuilds fail from a base gasket. I got a good record for my outboard rebuilds and since this is my sled, i deff dont want it to fail.
So the shitty Yamaha manual shows it dry, but i use spray high tack gasket sealer on intake gaskets on outboards for 20 years and i get 1 out of 100 that fails and they say to put on dry and when i did the one time is when it failed. So i always spray them with a gasket sealer like the old timer that told me he does.
I have no problem taking advise as long as its from some one that has done more then 1 or 2 rebuilds like it.
Thanks again for all the help guys, keep coming with the input.
" Im listening to them"

If the gasket is new put it together dry if your gonna reuse the base gasket (metal gasket only) clean it good with brake clean use the copper spray 2 coats let it flash and put it together I have seen this method done lots of times with no problems.
P.S I would not use that piston pin if it is heavier
