so a week ago, I dropped my SRX at a performance shop nearby, im having the powervalves gone through, carbs checked, everything that needs to be checked is getting checked. I am also getting some clutching work done, these guys are known for their clutching, so I am confident it will really wake her up. and lastly, I am getting my suspension set to my riding weight. last couple years the suspension was WAY to stiff. so today i get a call saying they took out the carrier and something was broke, they wanted us to come in and look at it before they proceeded, the mechanic said that this is the second time he saw something like this on a yamaha, and that it was a freak accident. idk the technical term for it, but the black piece that holds the carrier together, the bolt on the right side broke, and then the black piece was smashing into the rail, and broke threw that and my hyfax. how does something like this happen? my sled has less than 3000 miles, and i am the second owner, and the original owner was 60 when i bought it from him

im trying to get photos up, but this is being difficult, and my dad called it the carrier, its the back part of the sled with all the boggy wheels on it

Ya that has happeded to me before also. Bolts come loose and shock pounds it around. Iwould say to get a new rail(looks like someone ran the sliders a little long also),check the shock cross shaft for damage(the one that did all of the damage), check to see if your center shock is ok, not siezed(the shock attached to the cross shaft). Check all other bolts for proper torque.

well, like i stated earlier, the SRX is gettin work done in the shop, they are putting a new rail in, and repairing that cross shaft. they are also setting the suspension to my weight, so if the shock is seized they will figure it out before they throw it back together. I feel like these guys are down to earth mechanics, because they would not do more work to the sled until my dad and I went their in person, and looked at it, and talked face to face with the mechanic who is working on it. thanks for the quick reply dmax. its nice to know the reason why something failed instead of just wondering

Make sure to have them take a CLOSE look at your w-arm for cracks, while they have it apart. Another common problem.

I used to have a bolt always break there also until I did what Betheviper tells us in his write up on skids .The cross piece does start to wear in the slot area, usually the bracket breaks also where the smaller bolt goes.To much play and the bolt goes.So when you re-install the cross piece, you should apply epoxy to the slot area and rail and tighten it up quickly and let epoxy set.You will get no more movement or bolt breaking anymore.Mine doesn't break the bolts anymore..plus get the w-arm re-enforced as well.It was also stated on here that the bump stops actually cause the w-arm to be stressed and cracked and that removing them has helped.

x2 on the epoxy fix. I filled that are with JB weld to that up that slack. Cheap easy fix to never have that problem again
