A buddy of mine just bought an 01 MM 700. Sled was in OK shape but obviously had been sitting for at least a year. The previous owner had cut the wire harness going up to the hood as he was running a lightweight hood and aftermarket light. He sold it with the stock hood but none of the wires were hooked up. My buddy and I spliced some new wire in so we could get the headlight and gauges working, unfortunately that didnt work. Sled runs fine, hand warmers work but there are no headlights, gauge lights, and the brake light doesn't work. Checked the wires and they all looked good.

Could this be a stator issue? Like I said, the sled runs great and the handwarmers work. Just not getting power to anything else. Any suggestions? Hoping to get it working for this weekend.

it will not be a stator issue if its running fine, check your grounds. make sure u have the correct wires goin everwhere

Fuel gauge,tach and tail light work? The back lighting on guages and head light are on same circuit,Taking a stab in the dark but I would guess you guys missed a wire, either + or -.

Devilinabluedress (awesome name by the way) we're getting no lights from anything which worries me. No headlight, gauges, backlits, tail light, headlight etc...

Where was harness chopped at? Might be further ahead to try to find another to compare side by side. If say it was chopped after the plug in by the hood hinges to get that section of harness. I know some of the srx's had issues with the load control relay, (more of an issue when real cold out) unsure if the Mtn max would have similar part or not. If you still have that plug in up by hinges I would try unpluggin it and see if the tail light works, If yes suggests a short in the splices or hood components. My previous post was more of a fuel gauge and tach work as the should or are the dead as well?

The wires were cut right at the hood hinge plug. So we spliced wire from that plug to the hood wires. None of the lights or gauges work at all. Going to pull triple pipes tomorrow and check the wires that run under the motor, other than that i'm lost.

There looks to be a 20A fuse for the lighting circuit, did you check if that is ok?
Here is the wiring diagram in case you don't have it;

Okay so everything is dead, with this new info I would lean towards a ground wire. If it were just a problem witht he lighting circuit the tach and gas gauge should work. Either way worth getting a look at the harness under the motor anyways. Tie a sting to harness to pull back under the motor, Not sure about the mtn but my srx had a tab/tang thing under the rear of the motor that was a PITA....had to contortmy hand/arm uo under motor.

The power for the gas gauge, tach and gauge lights also comes from the lighting circuit fuse. If that fuse is blown nothing on the hood will work. Also check the wiring diagram to make sure all connections are correct.

Just looked closer and it appears there are no fuses on the MM, only on the vmax that came with electric start. Must be a bad ground as suggested or wrong connections.

bad load control relay(black) and/or lighting relay(blue)

reason handwarmers still work is that the power comes from cdi box, the rest comes from stator so it doesnt work if the relay is bad/shorted.

...OR.. the harness is shorted out/grounded out either under the engine or somewhere else on chassis, but look at relay foirst since someone cut the harness, it might have been running and they shorted it out.

Thank you very much I'll try that as soon as the Yammy shop opens!! Would you happen to have any info on a rx1 starter? Went for a lil ride Friday night and after one of our stops I went to fire up and the starter would spin but wouldnt engage anything.

It was both relays. Got no speedo light but have headlight tach/light temp light etc. thanks for the input!!
