So the neighboorhood mice held a party in my SRX 700 airbox and gained entry by eating the air filter element up.

I think I read here a while back about using off-the-shelf material for the air filter instead of the $$$ factory element.

What works well?

when in summer storage mode,I have learnt the hard way with mice.I now remove the air filter ,handle bar pads and plugged exhaust outlet.Had many wires eaten thru under my handle par padding...

Put Bounce Dryer sheets in your airbox, muffler, under stearing pad, engine compartment, etc. Best thing to deter pests and makes your sled smell spring fresh.

that really does nothing.I did that one year and found they were eating the dryer sheets..so don't trust that.I toss moth balls all around the shed and in engine compartment and around sleds. This is supposed to give them the sense there is a skunk around..but still they ate my foam under handlebar pads..go figure.I have about 8 mouse traps in there as well and do catch the occasional mouse.

I dont have a brand name or part number but I bought a housing/frame for my 99srx from another member as it came with nothing. Went to the local autovalue auto parts store and had to order the foam. Came in a rolled up sheet form. Had to cut shape to fit. If I remeber correctly it was slightly thicker than stock, seems to be working fine. At a glance it looks stock.
