I have had it with my Internet Provider. They left a message that I went over 17.2 GB for December.Had them for 5 years and this has not happened ever before..so they are screwed up.I am not on my computer more then any other time.Last winter with lack of snow and not riding,I was on my computer a lot and no issues. How in the heck can they tell me I am almost 3 times my limit..They are gonna charge me a little for it,but their service has been awful for a long time.My download speeds are supposed to be 10mbs,usually it is half to 3/4 that on a good day.My YouTube videos are slow and sometimes opening up pages is to slow.Last fall my internet went down twice, once for 7 days and another time for 10 days.I was pissed of course. Finally called them and they told me a service guy would come down..h'mm I have been waiting for like 3 months now..lol He must of got lost somewhere. My service came back on since then. Now I can't even suscribe to Netflex because my speeds are slow.So sent them an email to cancel end of December and stop pre authorized withdrawal of fund from my Bank.
Talked to another Provider from another Town that will offer me 2.5mbs and 25 GB total usage and all for $5 more a month. Then I will get Netflex as my wife loves to watch movies. My nephew will set me up the proper cables to my TV to run the movies since he is a computer geek..If I try to download a movie at my current speeds..it says it will take 16 hours.I know guys who have the 2.5mps say they download it in like 9 minutes..what a difference.

So I am shooting for my new Provider to come set me up possibly Jan 3rd. I may be without for a day or 2 in between.Just wanted to say..don't miss me to much..lmao..

Bluemonster 3 is coming down tomorrow to ride my 600 and we are off to the River for riding all day.Bluemonster 2 on the weekend.and BM3.Wow all the Bluemonsters riding at the same time...should be cool.

BUT ITS SO MUCH MORE THAN A VIDEO GAME! Bought it for the kiddo and was bored screwing around on it one day. Was surfing the net in no time! Imagine watching you tube on your big screen tv! Got on here as well as facebook and craigslist. Data entry with the controller was a PITA but you tube was WAY COOL ;)!

Or if you have a Samsung Smart TV like I do, along with wi-fi built in, it already has apps on the TV itself for Netflix and YouTube, plus there is many more you can download. I don't use them though and still run cables to my computer since I like to use XBMC with all my DVDs stored digitally on a Network Attached Storage computer that is elsewhere in my house. Yes, I'm kind of a geek too.

my nephew works for his dad who owns his own computer wholesale business. He said tonight he will fix me up quick..to connect my computer to TV is a breeze..

Do you have Wireless at your place? And if so, is it secured? It is more likely that they did not screw up, and that there is something going on that you are not aware of, PC could have a Virus, or you could have someone, Neighbors hi-jacking your Wireless. I see you already changed Providers or are looking, but I would start by Running a scan on your PC, I'd also strongly suggest you download and try malwarebytes (finds lots that AV doesn't) and then if you do have wireless, if its wide open secure it, if its already secured, increase the encryption and change the Security Key.

no don't have wireless.Have antenna on roof that works off their tower 1/2 km down the road. Then cable to my computer. When I had my other Provider they never has the technology to see what usage people have.It just happened theu udpated their system and are tracking people's usage. So probably I have been way over the 10GB they offer on my pan for years now.Now they want to start making the extra $$. Reason I switched is because they always cutout on me and slow down a lot.Plus their speeds are not suitable for Netflex even.Just bad service with them. The new guys I have I started with there 25GB level. They told me it should be fine.I now another fella around here who has the same 25GB and he has had not issues yet and he downloads movies, stream Netflex and does online gaming and told me no one has yet to phone him he has gone over and he said he was home all the month of December and was on hos internet everyday with long hours..so it does sound good.

Gotcha, I am also in a rural area, have Point to Point Wireless, Antenna on roof. Thing with this technology is the speeds are Burstable, and they give you what the High speed at the peak is. Typically I see a high initial speed, and it drops off very quickly. Very crap for Movies and streaming for sure.

My peak is like 5Meg, but really its more like 1.5 Meg...

More and more companies are offering better service for rural area's now tho.

I am stuck with DSL from the Hiawatha Telephone Company. (Local Yocal) They say I am farther from the Central Wiring Office than they have ever attempted. The speeds are a joke. Charging me for 10MB. I just noticed that Dish Network has some new offerings for satellite internet. I think I am going to give it a try. I work from home and internet is very important to me.

At least you have the option of choosing between multiple providers. Thing is, if the slow speeds are because of the copper wires going to your house from the CO, it is still going to be slow with the new provider.

Netflix.... Lots of options. (xbox, wii, blueray players, tv's, laptop, pc) The software will change the quality based on bandwidth. Less bandwith = less quality.

Wireless in your home - the more connections to the wireless access point = less over all available speed. If you have the option, use an ethernet cable. Gigabit speed.

I have set up P2P for a few resorts up here. Pretty cool setup and cheap.

Equipment = Netgear Wrt54G Routers (same version) DDWRT OS installed.
Connections for external antennas.
Internal network connects via ethernet cable to hub and wireless if needed. (Use seperate channels)

well I am happy with my new Provider.I am with the basic plan. It is 2.5mbps and they are basically close to it or above some time..can't complain.I have 25 GB maximum with this package.I finally can watch YouTube without any slow down.I have watched Netflix movies and it streams non stop.Even at peak times,my speeds are great..so the switch was worth it and only $5 more a month. I can switch anytime to the next pkg just with a phone call if needed. Can go to 35 GB plan or 50GB plan..but that would be expensive for the 50GB...The basic plan is 2 .5 times faster then before based on the mbps rating. I onlt had 10GB before for my usage..now have 25 GB usage (transfer)

Hows the cell signal there? My mother has the verizon jet pack. Provides "landline" telephone, internet and her cell with unlimited data for around $100 a month. From what I hear the merrit fiber should be headed your way before to long in 2013.

Cell Signal.... At my house I have a Booster with an antenna on the roof.
Verizon and ATT work well.
I also have a cell booster in the car. Coverage pretty much every where around here.

Verizon has devices that you can plug in to your internet connection. They are like a mini cell towner that connects to verizon via your internet connection regardless of who provider is. Not to expensive. THis is what they have down at the Forest Glenn - Whitefawn.
They have fast DSL there so it works nice.
ATT also has this type of device. It is called the Microcell. You have to program which phones are allowed to use it. The verizon allows any verizon phone.

My internet connect here (DSL) is weak. I need every bit of bandwidth for work. That is why I had to go with the booster.

Hiawatha Telephone Company is my one and only option. No onter land line providers in these parts.
