What could a person use that they might have around the house to get an idea of what angle a helix might be?I looked through the list of aftermarket ones and what I have is listed but I wanted to double check the angles.

angle finder and a nut. But how and where you measure on the ramp leads to different results. I dont get the 3 degree shallower readings claimed in that thread on hauck helixes when I measure mine. I think measuring them gives you a rough idea if you dont know what the angle is but there is a lot of room for mixed results

in the past, I have used an angle finder with a piece of aluminum flashing.

take the flashing and roll in into the inside of the helix, then take a scribe and trace the ramp.
use something as a standard measurement say, 1cm. measure down 1cm and make a point. measure up 1cm and make a point. you then use the angle finder to find the angle between the top 1c span and the lower 1cm span. (this kind of take the place of a nut bridging the curved distance a predetermined amount)

also to consider. I havent seen anyone mention two other styles of helixes. just progressives.
the other two are
dual angle, as in, two different straight cuts with a tiny transition
and triple cuts, three straight angles with transitions

also there is a straight cut but thats a given.
