2002 srx problem

ok guys i ran my sled lots this year ran real nice and strong but now im having major issues what is happening is the machine will run fine then all the sudden all the lights go off it idles down and the heat light flashes but not overheating and iff i press the gas its as iff its only running on 1 cylinder but then all the sudden runs ok again does it on and off thinking possibly a short somewhere
 
Probably a rub through where the wiring harness goes under the engine. This is a quite common problem on a lot of these sleds.
 
also check wires under the handlebar padding.Mice got me there 1 season and bare wire was grounding to bar..also run the sled ina building with all the lights off and look for arching.When I re routed my harness over the pull start,the damn exhaust melted wires..started to loose power,gauges where shuting off and then back on.I found the arching in the dark and fixed them and re routed wires again... :o|

You can tie a string on harness, pull out backside of motor, inspect/fix. Use string to pull harness back threw. Not a barrel of laughs but easier than pulling motor.
 
there is a tab under the motor where I couldn't pull past..so just check what I could pull.Best is when the engine is out and you can install loom over the cable

Now that you mention that tab/tang thing I remember fighting it myself. Actually went to a carcass and veried what I couldnt see. Kind of had to nearly stand on my head and contort my arm up under front of motor to bend that up and release harness.

Come on guys.....wheres the LOVE? I am sure it wasnt a pretty sight, Pretty sure had any one seen it they would have gotten a good laugh, followed by What are you doing? Had the pipes off but manifolds off. Dont remeber the winning combo of "elbow jammed into bumper brace,forearm above tie rods with the bars in this exact position and make sure your wrist is smashed against the side of waterpump" But in the end I got the little thing to release the harness!
