I ran a fresh rebuild in the garage for a few min, in the driveway for a few more. I then did about 4 laps around the house with a few throttle blips. I then pulled up next to the garage to do a visual inspection of the engine. As it idled it had a faint squeak, it sounded like a spring was chirping as it was shaking at idle. It was coming from the PTO side of the engine. As I started to look closer for the culprit it got louder, like a bad loud! I shut it down. I pulled plugs, it didnt even run long enough to put color on them. I started it back up with the oil cable pulled all the way out (I was thinking it wasnt hardly smoking, maybe the oil pump wasnt working). I pulled the head thinking I had squeaked a cylinder. Everything looked ok, there was a thin oil film on the cyl walls.
Here is the three cyl: the scratches on the cyl were already there.

This is the backstory of the build:
Crank was done by Jeff at Midwest. I re-used pistons and cyl. New rings and honed the cyl. Carbs were cleaned and needles raised. Stock jetting and exhaust. I drained the fuel best I could, added 2 gal of 91 oct and 2 gal of 110 oct mixed 32:1 with dominator. :dunno: :o|

I know the clutch can make some noise but I have never heard a noise like this come from one.

Any help is appreciated.

A new belt on clean clutches will squeal very loud if not set up right. Check your belt height in the secondary, center to center and offset. My guess is on that belt.

It is a spanking new belt. I set the Center to Center of the clutches but not the belt height in the secondary yet. Thanks for the idea Super1c! That would be great if it is that indeed. Then I would have a funny story about how I tore the head off a sled because the belt was making noise!!! LOL!

Did you wash belt before putting in on? If no this would make squeal worse.... Could put head back on with out belt and fire it up.

It was indeed the belt rubbing on the side of the primary! I didnt get a belt with the sled. Nor do I have a used one. The belt height in the secondary is near maximum at .050" (Limit is .060"), but I think that is where a new belt should be. I set the center to center with a tape measure, it could be off, there is only about 1/8" tolerance. I will make a tool at work to more accurately set this. Clutch side to side distance could be off too, it was right near the maximum. I couldnt shift it to the middle with the torque arm in there ( the dog bone shaped thing by the pto). Is it possible to install that backwards? Thanks again!
