Does anyone know the proper size for yamaha tunnel rivets? Attempting to install an sc 10 3 into my srx,i have a Fastenal store right down the street.

Proper spec is a Stavex brand 3/16 multigrip. I've used the Fastenal in a pinch. I don't recall the grip range I used, but the store near me stocked 2 lengths. Size it for your ply thickness. If in between lengths, use the longer ones with a backing washer.

Tensile and shear strengths vary a lot in blind rivets. I suggest either using Stavex rivets, or one with comparable strength. The Stavex also has a very wide grip range, excellent hole fill, great material gripping properties. Frankly it is very hard to beat. Be careful with some multi-grip rivets, even the Marsen brand that Fastenal carries. They are simply not strong enough. However, Fastenal does carry another rivet that is good. Just have to get the right ones. For Stavex specs look here . . . http://www.avdel-global.com/en/products/breakstem-fasteners/stavexr.html

I ended up with the Avex, not the stayvex...mechanic at the sled shop recommmended due to beting a solid core rivet. Now i just have to find a gun....thanks for the info guys..

Unfortunately your sled mechanic does not seem to know his rivets. The Avex has an aluminum body and either a steel mandrel or a stainless mandrel depending on which model. The shear strength of the Avex is nowhere near what it is for the Stavex. Even the tensile strength is better on the Stavex. The Stavex is the same rivet but with a steel or stainless body and mandrel. I recommend the steel (BS01).

Neither Avex or Stavex are solid rivets.

You can go see for yourself at the Avdel site . . . http://www.avdel-global.com/en/products/breakstem-fasteners.html

You can look at the tunnel of a Skidoo (F chassis, S2000 chassis, etc.) to see what a solid rivet looks like. An easy way to see the difference is if it has a breakstem (type you pull with a rivet gun) then it is not a solid rivet. Solid rivets are installed with an air hammer (using a special bit) on one side and a dolly on the other. Sometimes the special tool is used opposite the hammer.

You can expect the Avex rivets to loosen over time if they are used in a location with any stress.

Interesting......these are ski doo tunnel rivets. I did a search and came up with the same part number they had at the dealership.....so i guess i am back to square one......

Maybe the ones you have are not really Avex rivets. Post a picture and I can likely tell you which ones they are.
