the pilots clog never happen to me ....it seem to happen alots to people who left sled outside where the sun can catch the sled ...I did always store my sled in the garage and never had those pilots clog on every sled I had ....never put any additive or stuff in gaz ....any other people notice that ???or just lucky ...............

I always store in either a 2 placed clam shell or four place haulmark hard side enclosed trailer. I have never seen a plugged pilot but I have seen them be restricted to damn near plugged. Probably has to do with fuel quality. My buddy has a 02 sxr that he stores in a heated garage unless he is riding it and he has a hell of time keeping them clear.

Well, I've always had to clean my carbs every year, always plugged pilots, stored with fresh gas, gas with stabilizer, and dry. Tried everyway in storage. This year when I pulled it out of storage , I pressurized gas tank to force gas into bowls, pulled 4 times and she started and idled perfectly. Throttle response was perfect, I couldn't believe it. Took it down the field and for a test spin, ran great.

LUCKY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I cleaned my carbs today.....last year, we didn't have a winter. I cleaned them last year, filled up with 93, rode the sled out the garage and onto the trailer. On the way to the mountains the truck broke down, and we never got to ride (only chance all year). Drained my gas and put the sled away for the year. I pulled the carbs today and they were LOADED with gel and little gel balls from the fuel. Pilots were clogged and the bowls were full of that stuff.

Anyone who thinks they don't need to clean their carbs would take one look at my carbs from today would change their mind.

I clean my carbs every year to be safe. But I also have never had my pilots clogged. I keep my sled in the garage and I never add anything to the gas that's in it. I just drain it when I get it ready for the season.

I have a 98 SRX and this is the first year I had to clean the carbs. As a matter of fact I had to do it twice because there must have been more of the little pieces of white jel in the fuel line. The ethanol gas is not very good and Im sure this is what is causing our problems. The best thing to do is fresh gas every fall or winter prior to use. The yamaha parts guy told me you have to use a additive like K100MG to take care of water and stablize the fuel.

One of the first things I did was by a second carb rack for my srx ($50.00 from a member on this site). Having two carb racks makes cleaning carbs easy. You simply clean the carbs at your convenience and when you think your sled might need a cleaning you simply swap out the carbs and clean the ones that came out of the sled at your convenience. Having two carb racks can also help at troubleshooting, if you think you might have a carb problem.

Trust me always clean the carbs. I do like 20 sets a year.

Second this. My carbs always come off before the season. Better safe than sorry.

X2. Easy to do and well worth it. Plus it runs 100% after you do it. Easier to clean a set of carbs than to replace a piston. (Besides the hundred pulls to get it started!)

Could Modsrx not have carb issues because gas in Canada does not have ethanol? I like the idea of having two carb racks. To me with how crappy gas is now I don't take chance!
