I have a 01 Venture 600 that has the overheat light coming on. It's my first liquid cooled sled, so I'm just getting used to it. I downloaded an owners manual which says the light should flash 3 times at start up to test the bulb, which doesn't happen. It also says the over temp light will flash if it's overheating. I get a steady light. The light will go on for a couple minutes, and then go off for a few minutes. The sled had not been run for a few years, so I dumped the gas & had a sled mechanic friend of mine rebuild the carbs. I still get some low speed bogging and mid range burbling, so I am wondering if I might have a lean condition causing a overheat, but I'm nit sure if the light is faulty since it doesn't flash. Any ideas?

A low speed bog is an indication of a lean condition and can cause your light. The biggest thing to remember is fuel is not only a propellant it also cools the motor internally. In the middle of the bog if you flip the choke lever on and the sled has a burst of energy you definately have a lean issue.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing. I think I have a plugged low speed circuit on one cylinder. It sounds like its running on two cylinders at low speeds, but over roughly half throttle, it's fine. Still enough to cause the overtemp? Either way, I still need to solve the apparent carb problem.

Absolutely yes, to cause an overtemp! Either re-clean the carbs yourself if you have the knowledge or take to a reputable place that knows their stuff. It really isnt that hard or complicated if you take your time and pay attention. Get it fixed soon before you have major internal engine issues.
