Anybody know, or have a comet book laying around?
thanks!

i had an old automatic book, nothing every shock starts 400600aa for comet shocks

only one that had a 35 at the end was skis shocks for dsa skidoo front ends for what that is worth

Wierd. This may not be for Yamaha, just hate not finding info on something when I have the part number...

My comet book shows this to be the front skid shock for Phazer/Enticer/Ovation/Venture/VK540.
I know this is a very old thread but I have my book out because I need to rebuild the shock for my wife's 600.
All the oil leaked out over the summer.

I actually just built a custom Fox front skid shock for the pro action since they are a bit hard to come by. SRV, Vmax 540,500,600, Exciter II. I may build more.

Good info thanks. The shock is long gone unfortunately. Lol
I need that catalog!
Im actually looking for a front skid shock for my 87 vmax.
Any info on that one?????

Comet never made a front skid shock only the rear. The paperwork I have on these shocks was faxed to me from comet when they were still in the shock business. Getting you a copy is possible.
From what I can tell the shock you need fits Vmax 83 to 96, exciterII and a few others.
Throttle junkie custom shock might be a good idea.

I figured guys are looking for a decent, rebuildable replacement. Im guessing on the valving at the moment but I think Im close. The biggest issue is that you need to modify the cross shaft between the idlers. Not that its hard, its just a little messing around. The orginal Fox shocks for these skids had the fill valve and eyelet built into the body. The aluminum removable end is slightly larger in diameter and just barely clears the recess in the shaft. Hence the need to make more clearance.

A work in progressFox shock in skid.jpg This is what I started with Fox shock lower mount.jpg This is the front mount that I made to work with OEM bushings Exciter shock with wahl adapter.jpg Needed an adapter for the spring. There is way more involve with building a shock than I realized. I ended up scrapping a couple of rods and bodys untill I got it right. I'm currently working on the valving at the moment. I charged it today and it wasnt even close to where it needed to be. I should have everything straightend out by saturday.

Multiple. The rod and body had to be cut down and re-machined. I started out with a Polaris XCR shock, but the rod was too short. So I used a longer rod to make the correct extended and compressed length. It was perfect, or so I thought. Even though the compressed length was perfect, I neglected to add the correct clearance for complete compression. So I scrapped everything I did up to that point. I then started over with a longer body and rod. I did some careful measurements and ended up with what I have now. I hopefully will get it back tomorrow and will have more pics.

Yeah, if I can get the price down a bit on the machining. If I were to build one right now, the cost would be about $250 and thats fully charged, ready to go. I'd like to get it around $170 out the door. Bear in mind that that price does not include the spring or threaded adaptor. If I do something different with the lower mount I may be able to cut the cost a bit.

I got the shock installed last night. Every thing looks perfect. The spring and valving seems to be spot on. Vmax skid bracket.jpgFinished shock in skid.jpg All skid parts were powder coated and really looks sweet.

Nice work, very well done. In all my experiences with middle shocks, quick rebound seems to be the key to soaking up chatter and small to medium trail bumps. I may have you do a shock for my 81 SRX...
