Went for a 45 mile ride this afternoon, I burned approx 1/2 qt of oil, give or take an oz, this is normal I believe? Or is that too much?

Sounds like alot to me. Should be shooting for roughly a quart per tank of fuel. If its running full bore you would be running at a tank of oil per tank of gas. Check and make sure your cable hasnt ben pulled out.
