Re: 700 down (now I know why)
Well I tore down my 700 to find out what happened to the mag cyl and what I found wasnt pretty. The reed stopper broke off and went thru the bottom end! I have one dime sized hole in the case (so far) the cyl looks ok, piston is bad, the question is how bad is the crank?? I will be splitting the cases as soon as I find time. There wasnt much of the reed stop left, it looked like a pile of hammered finish nails!!

What year? Found some hairline cracks in my 98. Hard to see unless you look closely. The newer triples used stainless and were tougher. This was before my reed notches, I heard it was from backfiring. That is too bad, pretty major.

Its a 97..........What are the chances the crank and rod bearings are ok??? I will find out soon.
I would guess your chances are pretty good that its ok. When my 97 decided to eat the crank bearing I had my crank assembly checked out. The crank was good along with the rod and bearing. The jug, piston and head were a different matter. Those all needed to be replaced.
