Just tore down my SXR500 to do the top end for the first time at 9,000 miles. I was supprised at how good everything looked! Has anyone run one any longer?

lt may look good but did you micrometer the pistons, with that many miles there more than likey barreled.
i put on over 13000 miles before i rebuilt my 700
Im at 5500 on my 600, thing runs like a champ compression is still bang on equal on both cylinders, did a leak down test last fall and everything was still good to go. I know its a 600 but basically the same engine as the 500 just bigger jugs and pistons.

Piston skirt measurements on 1 and 2 were both 2.673" (Yamaha service spec is 2.674~2.673") Not too shabby!

I know a guy who put 20,000 miles on a red head 700 then he tore down and put new pistons and rings in it, and I heard it has around 27,000 miles on it now.
