My buddies 2002 venture 600 was running fine then all of sudden starting bogging out and wouldn't go over 20 mph.
He said he shut it off to check it out but could not find any visible problems.
Went to start it back up and the brand new battery was dead
Pull started it, and noticed the headlight was dim and the tach was not working and it was still bogging out.
Rode a 1/2 mile on it and the tach started freaking out then kicked back on and the sled was running great again.
Got within 2 miles from home and the tack quit again and started bogging again.
Any thoughts???

there were a few recent posts that a junk battery will cause the tach to jump around

If it fired up on the battery the first time around I would be looking for a MAJOR short.
I believe that ventures have the same wiring harness rub through issues that many SX, SXR and SRX's have. Rub throughs often cause run issues like this.

I was not there, but he said it ran great all day Saturday with the new battery
It was on Sunday it started acting up.
Where does the harness rub, under the motor?

Rub threw is common under motor and the hook retaining deal by the steering stem......Mice/rodents can chew anywhere.

grounding out somewhere..better check harness and under handlebar pad for Mice activity..for some reason they love to chew wires under the padding....loved mine anyways..
