I have a 97 600 XT I recently cleaned my carbs and noticed one of the throttle valves (slides) at idle was about 2-3mm higher than the other, I evened them out but my idle was high. (around 2000rpm)
I then adjusted my fuel screw to 1.5 turns out and adjusted the idle screw and I am now sitting right at 1500rpm idle, which is correct for this machine. It seems to be running well at all RPM. I also checked the plug color after a 30 min ride and they look medium tan color maybe a bit darker than before but still in a good range.
I am mostly worried that having the throttle slides out of adjustment could give a lean or rich condition at idle. Does anyone know what the idle height should be on the slides and if I should worry about readjusting

I have used a small drill bit to adjust mine. Lay it in there and ajust slide to it. Dont think it would cause a lean condition just when out of adjustment ur crabs are not in sinc.
Drill bits a good idea thanks, just sucks cause now Im paranoid they may be out of adjustment so I have to pull my carbs again. If they are out of SYNC what can happen, crank/cylinder damage from uneven pressure?

I doubt anything will happen if their out of sync. Just not as much performance. But then again dont quote me on that.Get the air box off and you should be able to do with carbs on. but then again you get that far you might as well take off and look everything over good. If I remember i think the spec is just a couple mm. Or small drill bit lol.
Ya I finally found it in my manual, its hidden in an adjustment section its 1.5mm on the 600, I think Ill try just taking the air box off, I literally just cleaned out the carbs and oiled the slides and everything like 3 days ago, hence the reason I didnt want to pull them out again. (scared to crack or rip one of my carb boots)
Thanks for the tips though
