Just my two cents worth.
I installed a skidoo electric helmet visor plug on my sled. It works really well and has a nice little cover to protect it when not in use.
I drilled out the spot then cut off the useless poo plug. Then I ran the wires down the pto side of the gas tank and used an existing frame grounding point for the negative. For the positive I went to the back up alarm buzzer positive lead Blue/Red wire that it fused and always has power. I spliced into the wire just above the plug to the buzzer (other pink wire goes to the back up switch that closes the circuit to ground when the sled is put in reverse)
Looks great & works great too...

I have a plug in just about the exact place you have yours, but mine is not a poo plug! It is a plug from Royal Distributing in Canada. It is a great idea. Automed, it sure makes it easier to plug in doesn't it?

The poo plug comes with a nice little sticker with a helmet icon on it but there wasn't enough room to put it on. I also like your plug mdkuni what's it originaly for?

similar install is on our tech pages. the complete plug units are alot cleaner looking install than a cord hanging out somewhere. nice info guys on the wiring. for the vipers. might be a great addition to the tech page article i wrote, as mine was on the analog guaged sleds. ski

It is actually originally for a dash plug on a snowmobile for an electric shield. Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.royaldistributing.com/servlet/MiddleRedirect?cat=null&page=50.html
Automed, what year is your Viper?

mdkuni, I found the plug you used in the Royal catalog; wish I had found it before I put the poo plug in.
I have a 2003 Viper Mountain. I really needed the plug last weekend for my HOME MADE heated visor that fits my Nolan modular helmet, it was -20C all day.

Home made heated visor, impressive! I have always wanted to ride the mountains, one of these days I will have to plan a trip..... You could still buy the plug

Automed, if you have an ER, run the positive line right to the battery. Leave your helmet plugged in during those "beside the trail stops." While you're standing around the shield stays clear and surprisingly enough-- it even creates enough heat to keep the bucket warm. Been hooking ours up this way with every elec start model and NEVER a problem...
