I put a brand new Yamaha belt for the VMAX on last year, shredded it after 1000 miles of riding, now I will admit that i set my primary clearance too tight and the belt was dragging on the first trip(160ish miles). Took it back apart and spaced it out some more, on the second trip after a hard 170 ish miles I shredded the out half the belt. The part that confuses me is that the sides of the belt showed little to no wear. Am I running a belt that is too narrow for my primary/secondary combo?
Comet 108C primary and a secondary off a 1996 VMAX 600. I know everyone expects the factory belts to last roughly 5k miles but mine shredded at just over 1000 miles. Also noticed the belt seemed a bit short and wasn't riding all the way towards the outside of the secondary clutch.
Anyone have an input on where my mistake was? Clutches are aligned and the secondary does have some "slop" to move in and out on the jackshaft.
