I'm installing a BTV 44" wide front end kit in a 2000 SRX. I have a few questions for anyone who's done this:

What top mounts did you use?
Did you check for interference at full turn lock at full travel?
How high does your front bumper sit?
Did you change front spring rates, if so which set did you get?

I've seen mounts that Snomofo had for his sled and am considering making a set just to get me by, but being 44" wide I know they"ll hit the tie rod at full lock. I already made a set out of 1 x 1" tube that worked good, but at full lock the tie rod moved the shock spring .143" at full extension.

I need to solve this problem before next week, or put it back as it was to ride the next two weekends. I really want to make this work.

Thanks in advance, John

Hmmm - I didn't run into this. The top shock brackets were from Scott (BTV) as well as the Venture upper/lower radius, tie rods and Viper shocks.

Agreed, post a pic.

Where are you in S.E. Mich?

snowmo, the venture rods I sold you would put you at 42 in. he is a little wider. I am not sure what he has made for the shock brackets. Your sled would end up with the correct geometry that the shock and spring was designed around, within a 1/2in. when you go out anothe couple, the springs act soft as well as the valving. I don't believe it is an issue of being wider that is causing the issue, there are two guys out there with 46in vipers that made their own custom brackets for differnet shocks.

For some reason I was thinking I started out at 42" and extended to 44". :o|

How would one go out to 44" (what radius rods go that far out)?

BLT?

I sell two different kits that extend the front end 2 and 4 inches. this extends your stock rods by this much. yours is just the wider rods. the stock srx is 40in, long travel stuff is 42

Well shucks, you were holding out on me ;>)

Then again, I wasn't as lazy when I bought from you as I am now.

I'm not sure what I did, but it wasn't good. Tried uploading pics, which ended in disaster. Have to wait for Jr., the soon to be software engineer. Sucks being old, and stupid.

Oh by the way, I live in Southgate, and have a house on Houghton Lake. Tring to get ready for Tip Up Town weekends.

The tie rod hits the back of the spring when fully extended and turned fully to the right, or left.

Here goes. Hope this shows whats happening. THe last one is close, but needs the angle adjusted. Tomorrow is the last shot.

I have those brackets on my sled. 2nd picture down, 1st row, bottom bracket. Who makes those and what are they for? Or what do they do?

I'm sure Scott will chime in, but my brackets extend beyond the bellypan and into the engine compartment requiring cutting a hole into the plastic for the shock clevis.

Also note canter of the shock mount relative to the bracket (roughly 5 degrees).

I also made some covers for the holes from the plastic lid of an EEC-IV monitor box by molding them with a heat gun and leather gloves...

Those are Pat Hauck adjustable shock brackets, you can raise the front end up for use w/long travel conversions. They make the sled sit level. Mine handled better w/them after a Max Perf. long travel shock kit.

I wish I'd listened to Scott and put the 42" kit in. It came to me that the reason i'm having problems is that the rear of the trailing arm needs to be spaced out some to restore the angle of the shock bracket to move the shock away from the tie rod. Well, too late for cutting and welding tonight, don't want to piss off the neighbors. They already hate the subwoofer enough.
