That's terrible.....so sad that people don't think when putting a 'wire' gate up that there may be potential catastrophic problems.

sad news indeed, I've always been wary of that same thing happening. Just scares the heck outta me.

I read in the doo forum that he was trying to find the trail, but ended up going into a gravel pit entrance.

The same fear I have about GUY (guide ?) wires (the wires that stabilize utility poles). Always heard nightmare stories of people taking those to the neck/head.

A guy was killed a few miles from my house two years ago this way. We go by the spot all the time on the trail. Real scary especially when your kids are following behind you.
Same year a few miles in the other direction, a guy followed someone's tracks into a drainage ditch and was airlifted. He didn't make it either.
Two weeks later we saw a guy get bucked off his sled in the ditch trail and was out cold. We called 911 and stayed with him and his son until help arrived. It was a crazy year, the down side when we have good snow.
