Up to this year I have always had comprehensive coverage on my sleds. Now that I have a trailer and haul them around I was told I had to get collision coverage as well in case of an accident. Collision coverage more than doubles my insurance costs. How do you guys insure your sleds? I now pay $423 a year for my Cat (Collision, Comprehensive & Liability of 1 Million) and $377 a year for my Yamaha (Collision, Comprehensive & Liability of 1 Million). I am going to insure my Polaris today with the same coverage. This is with a $500 deductible. What I will do is remove the collision coverage while they are in storage to save a few bucks. In SK we also have to plate our sleds if we wish to drive them on public roads etc. This costs approx $150 each per year. What do you guys do to insure your sleds if you do at all?

I have full coverage on the sleds I could not stomach loosing. I have just liability and u/w on a few older ones that are worth about $1500. My main concern if theft b/ c they are kept in my lake home garage. No perfect answer here. Depends how much risk you fell comfortable with. I would risk it more if it was not for theft concern. You should look into coverage on trailer but's super cheep.

I just have the basic to get sleds on the snow, with 1 million liability(which I think is mandatory) Just costs me $84 per sled which is good enough for me.Not to worried about theft, they are old sleds anyways..Now if you have a brand new $16,000 Apex..that is a little different.Found out a guy here told me he was paying about $750 a year..total coverage. Now that is a little steep for me..My truck insurance is under $600/year.Can't see paying that much for a sled that is only ridden a few months of the year.Probably why I stick to the older sleds..cheaper.You know how much gas I can buy with $750....The newer sleds will cost you more for sure because you want to be covered for theft and fire.. its up to you how much you love your sled and where you ride that you may want the extra coverage just incase..

Up here my trailer insurance is super cheap but only covers the trailer itself and nothing being loaded on it. Comprehensive insurance covers theft etc and can be purchased separate which is what I was doing before.

I'll share this. My best friend was unfortunate to be involved in a snowmobile accident here in Maine that resulted in a fatality. It was a big case up here all over the news, and they attempted to "make an example of him" but in the end his insurance saved his home, all he worked for, and most importantly his family.

Here in NB we're only required to have liability for trail use but I carry comprehensive as well (fire & theft ),for about $300 a year I figure it's worth it even for older sleds.
