Just picked up an 03 Viper with 5000 miles in really good shape.
looking for performance mods to match my SX700.
My 2000 SXR700 has trail porting, reed mod, middle layer of head gasket removed, rear big cooler, clutched and jetted.
I get about 112mph on the gun with this sled on a wide open long pull
It has done 110mph single pipe in 2000ft radar runs.
What do I need to do to Viper to get that pull and performance.
Thanks.

Triple pipes and/or clutching, then it will decimate all. Clutching is a good place to start & its cheaper than pipes. But triple pipes will get you to about 150hp. Adding a rear cooler is going to be a necessity if you go that route, plus a opticool head gasket also.

No pipes. Had pipes for a few seasons on the SXR and works well but gas mileage and tickets are not worth it. Will mild porting work with the viper single pipe. It sure worked well on the SX. I will put rear cooler even single pipe
Rear cooler, clutching, clean up the ports, and you can remove one layer in the head gasket but I would put an opticool in and leave all layers there as protection for bad gas. Clean and adjust power valves, check for cracks in the y pipe and worn exhaust donut( have had to replace mine twice)
As for clutching you want 8500-8600 on full throttle with an overrev to 8800 at shift out for top speed with stock exhaust.
My viper did 103 clutched for boondocking(off trail) with a 136" ripsaw on packed snow so you should be able to get at least what your sxr did and probity better.

MrViper Trail Porting, Bender 4x4 pipe and Heel Clicker clutching in a well maintained sled will have alot fun factor without sacraficing reliablity

Hey Kirk, Im looking for a rear cooler for sure.
May do some mild porting and add opticool gasket. My Y pipe is across the street being welded as it is cracked

Will he 4x4 gain HP or just weight savings. There are so many poss on cans and th pipe losing HP.

I found mine pulling excellent with just the clutching I did. on the dream meter I would pull 118 or so. so probably 105 in reality
I dropped I think (if I remember right) like 15 lbs with the mono skid. hooked up better, rode nicer, and felt a bit faster. no reliability issues with the motor with that weight loss plan

The pipe gains. I left the stock can in and swapped out the pipe. Went for a test spin and needed to correct a 400rpm over rev.
Best I've seen with my setup was with wind, groomed lake run at -32*c showing 117mph on the dream-o-meter. Had to keep one hand on the tall windsheild on those runs because it kept popping off on the front clip.
For the rear cooler you could use the one from the ventures as it is a similar pipe but has some cooling fins on it. Not as many as the srx rear cooler but better than the stock pipe. My dad's 05 venture 700(candian) has the viper motor and it has never had the temp light show anytime it has been ridden.
The 05 rx1 helix seems to work well with the heel clickers in a 136 but no idea about a 121. If you do find heel clickers, red spring 4g heel and 3g tip to start and i have a 48-40 advatage helix at 70 degrees but they are not selling to the public anymore. There is a dalton that is very similar but I do not remember what it is. This works well corner to corner in the trail and pulls good not really a top speed setup though.
