This place got me to start to look at a Viper....

So there is a sled I made an offer on - a 2002 Viper SX with about 5K miles on it. It has an M10 Suspension which I thought was very cool. All tuned and cleaned, and ready to ride (is what it says). Guy is a Yamaha guy too has a bunch of sleds - maybe he is on here too LOL.

Anyways - what do you think? $1500 Cash - seems like a nice deal to me....
No reverse but it does have electric start, none of my sleds have elec or reverse so this would be a first.

Anything I should look for on an 02? When do these engines start to get into too high mileage? I usually buy around 3K miles so this is on the high side for me.

And the M10 - anything to check or look for there? Pretty stoked about the M10...seems like a nice deal with that on there already.

Anyways thanks and hoping for some snow soon - looks like it will start to get good again next week.

This will bring my sleds to the 01 SRX an Artic Cat 98 ZR600 (spare- came with the trailer I bought). I was thinking of a 2 Up but man I have a hard time buying slow boring sleds LOL.

Wow, $1500 is a steal where I live.
I wouldn't worry about the mileage at all if the sled is in good shape.
I have 13,500 on mine, engine untouched and running mint

picking her up at 1pm! M10 is set up for 100lbs so I will need to adjust that for 225 LOL
Needs a new seat - rip in rear - but I found an 02 complete seat for $135 today as well.

WOW ok - well that is good to know thank you. this guy owns 12 sleds lol and is clearly a fanatic and loves yamahas so I am pretty confident on the buy.

Mine is an 02 with over 13,000 on the stock crank as well. Just been re rung. That's it... Go for it and you will LOOOVE the estart...

Well I picked her up - good shape - tear in the seat - but I located a seat to replace it - here next week. The Cowl was in so so shape, some cracks and scratches - about what you would expect on most but the BEST kept sleds for an 02. I also have a cowl located in pristine shape I may pull the trigger on that - then she would be in really great condition for very short dough.

He told me to pick up an SRX heat exchanger (says they fit are bigger and better and very cheap since everyone wants the ones for the Viper). So I will look into that.

But hey the elec start IS NICE. And she has had some clutch work done and supposedly the top end is very near an SRX because of it, not that it matters to me - I am not into the top end speed but good to know.

The M10 is set up for 110 lb person so THAT I need to work on....as I am 230...

Anyways pretty stoked and hope to take her up to the camp next weekend - snow has been starting again up there!

Has anything been done to the front suspension or is it stock? Most guys widen the front and relocate the shocks with adjustable brackets.

not sure really about the front shocks...I can shoot some photos up here and maybe someone with some knowledge on these can shed some light (I am pretty clueless- my first Viper).

I am concerned about the heat exchanger - I mean can I run the sled before putting one in? What are the risks for overheating?

I cant seem to get the min size photo on here - seems small to me....

A rear heat exchanger is a must when adding triple pipes but I don't think it's needed without them. We put 7500 miles on an 02 Viper and the temp light never came on. You won't have any problems as long as you drive it on snow like it was designed for.

thanks! yes it does NOT have the triple pipes...not yet anyways! and I hope to only ride in trails w decent snow yes - not a lake/ice runner.

Wow, to you Western Canada guys for Pricing, thats crazy.Glad i'm 15 mins from Maine Border here in NB.That sled is running about $1700 to $2300 right now in Maine with 3000 miles. They are an awsome sled for sure,my riding buddy has one,it was pretty much identical power to my SRX,but ride was much better.
I'd Pull the power valves out though and examine them to see if they need cleaned, or the cable end is about to pull thru, had to re-do all 3 on my SRX.

Reset the needles as well. 4th groove with the shims on top. Richens her mid range up for you while cruising at mid throttle. Keeps burn downs from being a big worry.

Yes - I had one in ME 3600 miles guy asking $2500 (I actually offered him $2K!) and yes I have seen others around $1800-2K - but none with the M10 setup- which is 90% of the reason why I bought this one.

I will run her out the rest of this season and when I get her back to the garage I will do the checks but thank you for the heads up!

crap I dont speak sled too well lol.

can someone translate for me? seriously I hate to admit but I am totally lost with this advice :o| sorry I am here to learn so thanks for your patience with me

He means the needles in the carbs reset to fourth position to help richen up. If it has sat awhile I would get that old gas out and clean the carbs!!!
