Hey guys,

New to the forum. Recently picked up a mint 2001 SRX and could not be happier. Rode VMax's growing up and always been a Yamaha guy. Now for my question...

My seat has a tear in it and I found a great deal on a mint seat from a 2000 SXR. The seat looked identical to mine, so I bought it. Went to install it last night and everything lined up except for the brake light plug. My SRX plug has 4 wires and the SXR plug has 3 wires. Instead of cutting the plugs off and doing some splicing, I am hoping to take the SRX tail light and put it on the SXR seat. From what I can tell, it appears to be the exact same tail light, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Can anyone out there confirm this? Why only 3 wires for the SXR plug and 4 on the SRX?

Thank you,
Andrew

Dont know if it has anything to do with it or not but the SxR would have had older ignition system with lower wattage stator and SRX has the newer ignition with hotter stator.

3 wire seat harnesses are from single bulb sleds, 4 wire plugs are from dual bulb sleds. just splice it. to change the harness, requires you pull up the staples on one side of the seat unless all the tap holding it to the pan is unhooked. Not worth the bother. Just splice it and put silicone in the connections before you crimp if your using crimps.

Ok. I have done my fair share of car audio/electrical over the years, so I have all of the necessary parts and will go that route. I also read where a couple people used a 4 flat trailer plug and cut off the factory plugs.

Hopefully the wire colors are the same on the plugs.
