Two words......Crazy Carpet.
Those paper thin pieces of plastic made for tearing down the snow hill.
Perfect width and can be bought for a couple dollars in different lengths.
Back of the tension, raise sled so track hangs ans start with the front, sliding the carpet in and work to the back, behind the rear idlers up and over. Pretty much wraps the entire skid. No more fight, just slide the skid out on a thin little piece of plastic. Reinstall, and pull the carpet out. No more rubber guides in the way.
I spotted my grandaughters on the front porch and remembered doing it years ago. Works great.

Geez taking the skid out and putting it back in is one of the few times I have to come up with new curse words or practice using the ones I know lmao.
