head gasket mod? on 96 500

can i do the head gasket mod on a 96 vmax 500xt.if so do i need to buy a new gasket or can i shave the old one?thanks.

it says right in the tech pages not for use on 500 series motors. they run tight squish already. dont force the issue. ski
