Tach Problem

Got a 99 venture 600 that the tach seems correct while idling but if you give it say half throttle it pegs the needle.Any ideas why its doing that and what to check.Thanks

Did it just start doing this out of the blue Rich? About the only thing I could think of that might be causing this is a shorting wire somewhere.I presume everything else works as it should?

I bought the sled this fall and did some work to it.So this last weekend was 1st time i had it out.I dont think its a worn wire.I took harness out from under motor and looked thru it while doing engine.

Do you have another tach you can plug in to try ?

Start moving/pulling on wires at idle to see if conditions on the tach changes.
