Continuing with the work on my daughter's Ovation, I pulled the carb to clean, inspect, etc as it's a new sled to us. The choke/enrichener cable was stuck when we pulled everything off and it appears that the plunger in the carb is what's stuck. I unscrewed the brass piece from the top of the carb but the plunger won't pull out. Am I missing something? We've had it soaking with penetrating oil for a few days but no go yet. Hopefully it's something simple that I've missed. Thanks for any help.

Ive have seen that a few times and usually a good soak in carb clean and penitrating oil works pretty well. Maybe try a little heat, but not too much because you dont want to damage the rubber on the bottom of the plunger. Then while its warm try and very carefully twist it with a screw driver. By very carefully I mean just that, because you can break the tabs off of the plunger pretty darn easy.

Throw that funky "Teikei" carburettor in the trash can and put in an ordinary Mikuni VM-32 or VM-34 instead.

This is certainly an option. I have a good carb off of an Enticer 340. Other than the intake manifold and airbox, what else would I need? Are the stock Ovation carbs that bad?

1.
* Mikuni VM-32/34.
* Throttle cable.
* Choke cable.
* Intake manifold ( ET-340 )
* Air filter.
* Carburetor flange

2. Yes, they are very hard to adjust and to get running right.

How do I get the cable off of the plunger while it's still stuck in the carb body?

What I have done is shorten the slack adjusters all the way, then compress the spring. This should give you just enough wiggle room to unhook the cable.
