Hey Guys,

A buddy just picked up an ss for cheap from a field left for dead. Cleaned all the mouse nests out and cleaned the carb. The guy told him its a 540 from an srv. Got a few questions:

The guy before had ditched the oil injection, what would be a safe mix for either motor--> that being said, is there a sure for way to ID either motor?

Also, the sled starts up after a few pulls and idles fine, first run it was dog slow, pulled the plugs they were soaked. He had taken the airbox off to make sure no nests inside, and thought he put it back together wrong. With no box hooked up and screen over the carb it did 100k no problem.

Think someones jetted it up wrong for the 540? It goes through fuel like crazy this way. He got it as a run-about for the cottage to replace one stollen, it's a great old girl, just needs some TLC.

Thanks in advance.

single carb or dual? the vk's had single and i think the srv's where dual. could be the diaphram is split in the fuel pump. happened to my et thgis season.

could be a bad needle and seat or it had pipes in other chassis and they left the jetting in..
