Readhead motor mount to block bolt tourqe spec

Yamaha service manual calls for 24 ftlbs of tourqe on the M8 bolts that fasten the motor mount brackets to the block?I stretched a bolt.Do you guys think this tourqe spec is excessive?Would around 18 ft lbs be fine?Opinions?
