what needle sizes are available for the redhead? i have a needle 6dgm-05 in there now. what do the numbers mean when it comes to going richer or leaner?

I did a bunch of digging on this last year and though it is hazy to me now I believe you are going to have a heck of a time tracking down numbers for those needles as the numbers are a yamaha number. However there are many different needles available, and it should be changed out if you have a lean spot...

For instance say you have a good 3/8 throttle mix but when you get to 1/2-5/8 throttle you lean out before going back to a good mix at WOT. You would have 2 choices, raise your needle and have a rich 3/8 throttle or change your needles.

With that said, typically these stock needle profiles work very well in the 700's. Are you have a lean/rich spot? If you are lean/rich from 1/4-3/4 throttle you need to adjust your needles up/down or change your needle jets.

So are you just curious or do you see an issue that you are trying to change?

i'm curious about it and i'm going to be ordering some new pilot jets and main jets. i might as well buy some needles too.

Cool! Your medium throttle will follow your main jetting, so I would just start with the mains and see what the 1/4-3/4 throttle looks like. I hope this helps!!

i ordered some main jets and some pilots. did not order needles. i did not know what to order. i'm going to have to do more reading before i buy any needles.

my pilot jets came in 50. and my main jets came in 142.5.. i'm gonna lean out the main jets when it gets warmer. i'm going to pull out the carbs on Friday and clean them. i think there might be some water or dirt in there. the redhead does not seem to get full power, but all cylinders are firing. it's also making some popping noises and back firing. i have a feeling it's not getting enough fuel and running too lean. i did not drive much this week. i did not want to risk burning down the motor.

no, it did not pull at peak rpm. i drove at 1/4 throttle after it did not accelerate hard after i pinned the throttle. i took it easy on a short ride.

fuel Screw Turns 50

i have installed psi stockblaster triple pipes, vforce reed cages, modified the air box, carb jetting was : pilot 45, fuel screw 2 1/2, slide 3.5, nozzle q-8/q-4/q-4, needle 6dgm-05 3rd/4th/4th pos
main jet 143.8/143.8/143.8 pto/mid/mag.

i changed the main jets to 142.5, the pilot jets are now 50, and the fuel screw is now at 2 turns. everything else is unchanged. my question is, how many turns should the fuel screw be? now that i have installed a bigger pilot jet. 45 to 50
