The xtc project turned out really nice and is very snappy and quick to my suprise. Been a while since ive rode a twin. I have the turk clutch kit installed. 8ab weights with 2.4g in all holes. 50/44 helix with green spring a 60deg wrap. Im getting a sl over rev. It pins right to 8000 and stays there and the engagement is a hair high at 4500. Being new at clutching im thinking i need to add more weight to the primary. What would the next weight be? I see 3.4g but that seems like a big jump. Then which weight spot do i put it in (tip ect....)? Will adding weight help my engagement also? I think this sled has engagement shims but i dont know what to do with those at all. Ive read the clutching bible so i got a good base but applying this is different. I was thinking of cheating with the secondary spring but i think 60 is the lowest wrap? Increasing wrap increases RPM's right? I know you dont chase rpm's with wrap but it would help me see if the weight is needed im thinking. So any help would be great. In short need to get engagement and rpms down just a hair. Chris

With some more reading i see to remove engagement springs to lower engagement. I will have to see how many if have. If my memory ends up being wrong and i dont have any engagement shims how do i lower the engagement? Check spring, new spring? Thanks

A spring with less preload should engage sooner. Have you marked the clutch to see if its shifting out all the way to top of primary??
You can go less than 60 degrees, but back shift will suffer.

Not yet but will do. I realize the clutch shifting out all the way to the top is improtant but why? How does this effect overall RPM's ect....? Thanks chris

shim your secondary, gives it a bit more pull, causes the belt to sit lower in the secondary and higher in the primary

Its exactly what it say's. "turks clutch kit" i guess it could read turks clutch set up. It was just one of the set ups turk recommended for the 600 twins. It is really nice, got the engagement back in line (happened all on own, it was a new belt maybe it broke in). I pin it it goes right to 7800-8000 and pull all the way. Really woke the sled up with the reed stopper notch and viper reed cages. Fun little sled now. I havent road it much but my buddies daughter has been riding it and she loves it.

Turk was one of the original members here. He did tons of testing and shared a lot of his clutch set ups with us. He has passed away a year or two ago now. He was a valued member and a great guy. Never met him but he helped me a time or two as with most members here. Here is a set up page from the tech section http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles/aaTECH/tuning page.htm
