600 twin p85 hits at 4000 runs up to 7500 down to 7100. saw 75mph ish arcoss snow covered lake. Held it wot for 3 to 5 minutes :sled1: .
others were scared to pull wot (motors may toast) crossed lake second of 4, sleds skidoo 800 got there 1st. Seems I had it flashing to 7800 and then going to 7500 last year. I smoked my belt a few times at the end of last season(burried in deep deep pow a few times) Could that abuse have streched my belt? It still is sitting a tad above secondary where it should. So my options are. try (buy) a new belt. Use lower gear set. (droppin 2 teeth)21/39 with short chain. (i have) or change secondary spring setting.(set factory) Finally got my 1st ride in. 100 mile in gaylord. Any advise.how many miles do you guys run a belt? huge thanks. cheers.

Will do. Gonna pull sled in garage to de thaw. Seem it got really moist from sitting in enclosed trailer for months. Both sleds had moisture. In gages, lights ect. Git back in a few. Pretty sure there mint though. Prob gonna change gears cuz i was gonna anyways.thanks.

ok, well the rear clutch is a torq sensing unit, so if you were to hit a drift of snow it senses this and begins to backshift to put the engine in a lower gear to pull the load. So with what your saying its running up to 7500 then drops back to 7100 after out a ways held wide open tells me that:
1.)you either dont have enough rear spring pressure for the kind of snow your riding in.
2.) or the helix and spring combo could be mismatched,

3.)or the helix has too steep of a finish angle on it for the motor to pull with your current front polaris clutch set up.

youll need to elaborate a bit more on what your running for the clutch set up, I see you have a bunch of mods listed but nothing about the sec clutch, other then stock spring setting/twist.

more work done

Secondary is stock. Spring is in the whole left of 9.have no idea what that hole means does.maybe thats position 8? thawing. Primary spring is white with yellow stripe. Think its called olive gold? Cannot remeber wieghts 54;56?? Have bunch of poo weights. (Poo 600) setup. Just noticed i am not getting full throttle. Dah. Seems there was about 10/15% left. set the nuts at carbs wrong after tear down.my bad. hope adjusting linkage gives me a little more sack. back to 7800 down to 7500. but as fl said but whatever.
Just geeked guz I got to finally sled. feels good.
:sled1:
:sled2:

Installed 21/39 gearing with 68l chain. Its a pretty straight shot with less kink. will test in day or in many. Thanks again. :carbs:

Id say scrap the Poo clutch and weights and go back to Yamaha, Im guessing you have your spring in hole 6, but what about the other end you need two numbers to figure out your twist angle. Im running an entirely stock 600 twin, except for a 1" camoplast track, I launch at 4000rpms (correct for this sled) and it will lift the skis(even the heavy steel bastards) and itll run to just over 100mph at just under 7900 rpm, on a packed lake with no studs. Id say all the crap you changed on the sled has your clutching F#*&ed!

Changing gearing if your clutches arent dialed in, is like putting a bandaid over a gunshot wound its not gonna help your problem.

Yamaha clutch was toast. Parts were more than whole poo clutch. Just changed gears. I was not getting wot. Now i am. I can switch wieghts or take some off the tip for more rpms if needed. Poo clutches are very nice. I have 4 other sets of weights.springs are cheap. I will try to take for a rip later and get back. I am shooting for 7800/8000 max on top. I may try for 4200/4500 on bottom. Takes lots of sack to turn big tracks in deep pow.thanks for the advice. I will keep tinkering. O ya your sled sounds like a ripper. Cheers

nemo

Just went for a rip.works mint. Never saw anything over 8000. Seemed to lock in at 7800/8000. 85mph is as fast as i dared on the road. Thanks again. Cheers

One thing I did notice, r u still running iridium plugs?? If so scrapem go with regular NGKR BR9ES and make sure their the ones with the solid top. For some reason on my twin anyway it hates any other type of plug.

Also if you have a 1.25 ripsaw why are you running 1.15 studs??

Your RPM's are bang on but 85mph is still really slow, I had an old mini indy 400 liquid that would beat that. Is this speed on your speedo or on GPS??

track lugs are really shorter than 1.25,1.15 are long enough. I bought a few sizes to see what fit best. Rode 120 plus miles with 9 other guys sat in baldwin area. They had 1000cc turbo sleds Yammi and cat.(3 turbos),800s,700s ect. I had no problem keeping up. I was only getting pulled a few sleds from 0 to 90ish by the 800s. Old yammi was rocking it. huge cheers
