I know there is a fuel filter in the tank. My question is would you find it necessary to inspect the filter & clean/replace? I normally wouldn't bother however the sled has been sitting for a few years.

Definitely. Cheap enough, and you'll have the peace of mind knowing it's a fresh filter in there. Get all the crap gas out of there, and clean out whatever sediment is in the bottom of the tank.

Thanks FJViper! Any tips on how to go about this? Will it be easiest by taking the tank off? Not sure how to gain access to the filter.
I do already have the Carbs and airbox removed

The best way I've found to get the filter out now that you have the airbox off is to remove the fuel line to the fuel pump, take the 2 bolts holding the inlet to the tank out and pull the inlet with the internal line out a bit.Once you have the line off the inlet tie a piece of string or something to the internal fuel line long enough so you can pull the fuel line back through after you have the filter changed. As for the filter use a piece of wire or a coat hanger curved into a hook and fish around til you hook the fuel line and then pull it up through the filler neck.Just make sure the string or what ever you use on the end of the internal fuel line is long enough so it doesn't end up inside the tank where you wont be able to reach it to pull the line back through once the filter is changed.

thanks fourbarrel, got it out just fine with your tips :sled1: Just need to get myself a new filter tomorrow and I'll have it back going. Any ideas of how to drain the tank completely and clean out the sediment like FJViper was recommending

Small world! Lived in Exeter for many years and went to school there also. Yeah, we are supposed to get hit pretty hard with this storm which will be great for the trails. Let me know if you need a hand with anything on the sled, always willing to help out a fellow Yamaha guy. Plus...your only 15 minutes away.

Short of taking the tank off the chassis altogether and flipping it upside down to drain the contents all I've ever done was use a siphon bulb and hose to get as much old gas out as possible. If you do take it off once the old gas is out I'd use compressed air and blow through the small inlet while the tank is upside down and see if any crap come out the filler neck. That's my 2 cents lol.
