Last night went for a ride with the wife and her 97 MM 600 lost the hand warmers but we kept riding got to the place where we had dinner and went to leave and the sled lost its low beam light by the time we got home her headlight was real dim and dash lights wereso dim you could see the speedo also the taillight and brake light quit working. Does this sound like a stator issue or a voltage reg. issue?

If the sled was running good, I would be looking at the regulator. If the sled was running poorly, i would think stator.
The sled was running fine what had happen is a screw fell out of the metal strip that hold the wiring into the case and has been flying around in the housing it ruined the coils for the hand grips and the lighting coil was being affected by this also. The water pump pulley also took a hit and had a chunk of the pulley missing. I have a stator but its a non smart carb stator the smart carb has an additional coil windings I am thinking its for the ecu for the smart carb. Found a new one for $243 so I ordered it my only other option would be to use the one I have and get rid of the smart carb which would require installing different carb on the machine.
