hey guys i did my first radar event today and let me say there is a lot of fast competitive sleds i would really like to build up the power in my 2002 srx im thinking either big bore or porting with bender big bore pipes witch direction should i go for radar running and witch company would be best for this work

I will second that. Get in touch with M. Viper , he knows portng and clutching. Very good to work with .

Big bore

If you already have the Bender big bore pipes. The Big bore would be the way to go. The big bore has a lot more torque. There is no replacement for displacement. Of course it is going to cost a lot more.

dont take this the wrong way but I just read your other thread and if you arent doing basic maintenance like cleaning/adjusting powervalves and changing out a bad track then no amount of HP is going to make you run with the fast guys. those guys are fast because they pay attention to every detail.
whatever your decision another thing to consider is what class either will put you in. You need to take a close look at the rules and see where you will end up. As you jump up the classes it's going to require more work and $ to compete. Not sure about up there but down here a big bore is automatic prostock and up. those classes take a ton of work to compete.
If you're just talking racing people out on the lake bigbores are a lot of fun. Sanctioned racing there are more things to consider.

l fully agree with Staggs. Spend some time challenging yourself to be faster by working with what u have. Ported engines can be a bit more finicky and tuning for the day becomes more difficult. Learn what makes your sled faster by testing! Knowledge will make you faster. Money can as well but you better have alot of it to beat the guys with the knowledge of tuning.

I agree unless u got that sled down to the science everywhere u doing nothing but wasting ur time and money!

ya i will be goin throught everything today but i was running bad numbers yesterday 105.8 with a 185lbs driver in 1320ft and then a 109.9 mph in the last pass with a 100 lb driver looking to get a little more but still wanna have more power for next year lots of very smart tunners out there yesterday and dan what did you end up running with shauns cat and your srx 600 last i seen was 110.1 on cat and 124.3 on the srx 600 very impressive

k guys took my power valves out and the clutch side power valve was really hard to take out it had a thin icy build up around it they actually all did what was cause this

Trav as I said in my last post knowledge is powerful. Look what Howie did for you in a short period of time at the track. He had been working on that sled for years before you bought it and managed to get you pretty well right where your sled should be running! Spend time trying new things. If you never try something different you can't get better!
We have been working hard to get Shaun's sled where it should be running. Are we there? Hell no! His sled reacts so different to everything we normally run on Yamahas that it get confusing at times. We have tried so many set ups its crazy. Our best run with it is around 113 now. We where still 2 mph off the pace. We have work to do yet. LOTS TO LEARN STILL!

ya dan forsure you guys were running some strong numbers on both f7 and srx very impressed i was gonna come ask you a few questions but seen u were very busy my power valves are pretty dirty and one was real tight to pull out and they all had some icy build up or something when i pulled them out,the last pass was with howies friend or wife not sure but she ran a 109.9 and howie said it ran a 113 in 1320ft last year i ran the same cluth setup that it came with and thats all but i think iff she woulda ran it from the begining may have seen better numbers

suspension, drive train, track, rotating mass..look at these areas for good improvments. I would get all these tuned before looking at engine mods

I know this thread is old but I'd like to add my 2cents. I've been a car/bike/4wheeler/sled builder for about 26 yrs now I do all Mods from ground up myself. I HONESTLY BELIEVE) if you have the funds and plan to do multiple mods to any machine (you should ALWAYS) start with the engine.( if and only If !!!) your plans include engine mods. Why???? BECAUSE all mods you do without the engine mods done , Will and I repeat WILL have to be redone after engine mods are done because they will no longer be set up correctly!!! Just drive them appropriately until all parts can and will handle the increased power.
