So havent got a replacement stator yet,but thought I would do some inspecting and testing of switches and wiring to see if I could figure out whats going on. Well tested coils, wiring to kill and ignition switch, and wires in between plugs from cdi to stator. All had continuity withno visible rubs. Coils all ohmed out within spec. So decided to look at stator closer. Found where it looked like someone put blue permatex gasket goo on wouldnt you know it one of the source coil wires. Picked off some of the blue stuff and found bare wire. Didnt have to pick much either. So im thinking that the blue goo maybe broke down cause of heat and shorted that wire out. This sound like a reasonable cause or am I drawing silly conclusions. Opinions appreciated cause i Dont want this to happen again. And Im just confused as to why this happened again. Debating on new oem or another used to. Supposed to go to a local guy see what he has tomorrow. Think deciding factor will be the mileage on sled it comes off of and price.

I never had luck with used or aftermarket stators. There's a guy on arctichat who will rewind them,( at least for cats) with heavier guage wire.

Thanks for info Darv. Just checked them out and like what I see.Give them a call tomorrow. Wish I would have found them on last one. Thats what I paid for last used one. Ahh live and learn!!!!!!

What kind of riding do you do? do you just ride around home on groomed or public trails or do you trailer long distances to ride and stay in hotels and such?
do you ever ride alone or are you always with someone?
What Im getting at is if your riding close to home with a buddy all the time on a hard packed trails where its no problem to get it towed out of the woods then go with another cheap stator, but if your out riding by yourself sometimes in the deep pow like I do at times then you should bite the bullet and spend the doe on a new OEM stator.

Well do alot of both. Mostly leave from my house and usually start out alone then hook up with someone out there. Know matter how you look at it getting towed out sucks!!! Already has happened 4 times over last two winters. Making me doubt yamis. My other sx was bullet proof. Course I bought that new and always did the maintenance and took care of it. But then again ive had this one stripped down to belly pan and gone through it too. Maybe it is just cursed!!!! Gonna take a ride to this place now and see what he has for a used one and how much. If its the same as ricks stator Im gonna try them. They take ur old one and send you a rewound one for 175.00. Seems like a good deal and brand new with year guarantee. Not sure there will be riding anyway this weekend. We lost a good bit of snow last couple days. So once again gonna need 6-12in to make decent. Weather sounds stormier for next week so want it fixed

Well Justin from FULL POWER finally called me back after bugging him ten million times. Apparently he has been doing lots of traveling so hasnt been in shop much. So Anyhoo he has another stator (used). So give that a whirl for now. Snow this weekend lake effect snow watch at present time and big storms next week so want to ride. Think I will send other to ricks for rebuild and have as a spare. Hope the stars will align and this is last time I have this problem. What a pain in the a$$
