I have a 1996 Yamaha Vmax XT 600 twin. Has always ran fine, but smoked more that anything I have ever seen.
This year I fired it up and it appears to be firing on only one cylinder, but still starts right up and runs/idles as it always has.
Replaced the plugs, the (potential) non-firing cylinder plug looks shiny new. We checked for spark, both plugs have spark, checked compression, 125 on one, 105 on the other.
Any ideas, similar experiences? I really dont want to have to dump a ton of money into this thing.

That compression seems off quite a bit,may need to do a top end rebuild. Mine always smokes like crazy when first started and warming up but clear's out after riding a bit. How many miles?
it has around 4000 miles. So far I have heard rings, crank seal, carbs... looks like I may end up selling this thing for a parts sled, I would have to have work done for me and it sounds pretty costly.

If you're going to sell it for parts, what condition is the seat in? I'm thinking about switching the seat on my '95 Vmax to the '96 style..
The seat and everything else on this is in excellent condition.
Id say check carbs, but ya 20psi difference is huge. Im also thinking if it smoked like mad even after warming up, your oil pump was probably gone, when they go they break wide open so youll burn tons of oil, and running the sled that rich for too long could potentially take out a cylinder.
