Before I start on my problem I'll run down what I have for a sled and what I'm working with.
98 SRX 700 converted to 2000 electronics
LED tail light from 4 stroke Phazer
Stock cylinders & heads
Stock tach
I had a chance to finally try my conversion out last night with a short run around a couple of trails, been waiting impatiently to see how the updated electronics would work.I had a tail light issue that I traced down to a broken ground wire tonight and fixed that, the headlights work fine both high and low beam.
On to the issue for starting this thread, when I first start the sled there's the normal delay in the headlights until the relays power up the system but I did notice that the 3 flashes of the temp light for the diagnostics is only showing me 2,it isn't energizing fast enough to catch all 3.
The other thing I noticed was that when I switch to high beam the tach loses it signal for a split second then goes back to normal. The really strange thing is as long as I don't shut the engine off it only happens the once,if I switch back and forth from high to low beam again the tach doesn't flinch it reads properly. But if I shut the engine down and then restart it the first time I switch from low to high beam the tach has the same momentary lose of signal;it's almost as if something has to energize or charge up.
Here's what I have done so far to try and sort this out,I have a couple of spare codensors so I changed one at a time to eliminate them from the electrical system and a possible cause.
I removed the wiring harness ground and cleaned both the frame and the connector and bolted it back up.
I took both the load control and head light relays out and cleaned the contacts and plugged them back in with dialectric grease on the plugs.
None of these things had any affect.I am new to this electrical system with the relays and only one regulator so if anyone has an idea of what I should check or change feel free to add a your advice.
ps To double check that this wasn't a normal quirk of this new style elctronics I started my 01 and put it through a couple of high to low beam cycles and it doesn't do it so there's an issue with the 2000 electronics somewhere.

Just to take one more issue out of the equation I did check the wiring harness over before I put it in the sled so I'm going out on a limb and say that there really shouldn't be a rub through causing this.
Did you switch the stator and all or just run duals and leds else where?

Everything was changed over to 2000 specs, stator, cdi, wiring harness, regulator & relays.

take and switch out the (white)load control relay with your 01 see if it still does it, you can switch the blue(light) one as well to see if its the relay.
did u put back all capacitor

Yes the original capacitors are still in place,I'll try switching the relays tonight and see what happens.I think the load control relay is kind of messed up on my 01 too because when the sled is warmed up it take many pulls to start it and apparently that's a sign of a bad relay. But it hasn't affected the headlight so I'll try them in my 98.

my 2000 srx does the same thing, tach looses signal when switching to high or low beams. i had rub through but fixed that and it still does it. its been doing it for 4 years now.

The really confounding part of this thing with mine is that it only happens once as long as the sled is running, the first time I switch to high beam the tach flickers and then goes back to normal. When I switch it again nothing happens with the tach. But if I shut the sled off and restart it the tach flicker happens the first time the high beams are switched on but again that's the only time it happens until I shut the engine off again.
I'm going to try switching my relays with my 01 and see what happens.

Well it`s not the relays causing my tach glitch,is there any other possible causes because the way it acts I really thought it was one of the condensors doing this.
did u change all the hand warmer and thumb ....just curious

I had changed the grip warmers years ago to a set of blue ones from I believe a 2000 SRX,I bought them from a member and have been running them for years. As far as the thumb lever no I haven't changed it yet;I'm not sure what the difference is in the old style and the newer ones because they both ohm out the same resistance yet they have different part numbers.
