I have a question on shock mount position.. On my 1997 Vmax-4 the front shock on the rear suspension (the little one) is mounted with the shock body closest to the ground and the shaft pointing up and on my 1995 Vmax with a 2003 RX1 skid, the same shock is mounted in the opposite direction..I never noticed this before but it seems odd, they're basically the same suspensions, is one mounted improperly??

in my 97 sx the shaft is pointing down and if i remember right my 94 vmax the shaft was up it should only fit one way i thing the one bolt is longer and i think that is the top bolt when the skid is in

94 vmax, and 97 vmax-4 have different suspensions altogether. 97sx and 97 vmax-4 should be the same.
You could always go to the TY homepage and look at the Yamaha parts diagrams link. Should be easy to tell from there.
According to the parts diagrams...the Vmax 4 the shaft is up, and the 03 RX the shaft is down just as your's are now.

Thanks, Sno! Good to know I'm not running one of them upside down..
