Rebuilt the wifes sxr this fall, new pistons, rings, and gaskets, top end only, cleaned carb, and put in new gas. Went out for a ride last weekend, and the sled ran perfect. went out again the next day, and the sled does not want to go at trail speed (40mph or so) have to have the throttle down 3/4 or so, then takes off, runs perfect at wot, and runs perfect if you pin it and don't let off, almost acts like it is not backshifting? reeds? I am running the vmax john set up, when wot rpm's are @ just under 8000. runs on both cylinders always, and chocking it during the problem makes it worse. Any ideas? going to clean the clutches tonight, and maybe take a look at the reeds.
primary clutch binding/dirty?

Cleaned clutches, and carbs tonight, checked reeds, everything looked good. Works fine on the stand, but did not have time to go drive it, also threw some new plugs at it. Secondary has all new buttons and bushings, new weights and rollers and spring in the primary, hopefully something i did takes care of it.
One other thing that is bothering me is the spi pistons i put in it, they did not have the small boost port in the intake side of the piston, but it ran great the first time out, so i doubt that is the issue.

mine dose the same ting i just deal with it.
maybe the needles need some adjusting??? What kind of snow conditions? I had an issue where my 96 vmax had a heavy wrong gear type feeling and I added 10* of wrap and that helped TONS. Plus it was lean in the mid range so I moved the needles up 1 washer.

Sled was much better after cleaning the clutches, and new plugs, but still not right. I heard what sounded like a lean knock in the mid range, so i raised the needles 1notch. WAY worse that way, so i will drop them down one notch from where they were. Hopefully that will take care of it.
