ok what the heck. there must be a link that talks about what is a favorable track for the 121" viper.

i need some light.

i am about to pull my cone track and sell it. I want to take that money and put to a new one.

my style : agressive WOT trail riding playing cat and mouse is my usual. mostly ITS and connectors.

I need better hook when trails are anything more than packed and groomed (all the cone track is good for)

will keep 9 tooth
prefer track without studs
thought of 1.25"
some say 1" with 96
some say they hate 1.25 ripsaw
what about carve, hacksaw.. blah blah blah??

1.25?? or 1" ?? I plan to shave front cooler protection for 1.25.

rear exhanger is on it...

too many damn tracks and prices are all over the board.

sled is stock

any really good words... thought a 1.25 would be good for northern maine to help move more snow than a 1" .. HELP this is rediculous and i dont want to pay a track and find its not a noticible difference than the cone that is on it now

what about the ripsaw II vs. the cobra? will the cobra fit if i trim the front exchanger guards?? (no studs on these >1" lugs ofcourse)
cobra appears to have good reviews..

forgot to add ...... what about fully clipped?? all windows open?? every third?? .. plan to use the 4th wheel help against marginal snow... it that even worth it as well (wheel kit) .??

I have a 7/8 factory stock track with 100 and something studs. cant remeber how many.. Hooks up great on the trails and hard packed snow.. Awesome for ice on rivers and lakes. I get great cornering on the trails but also run dual 6" carbides on the front skis.. If you are doing alot of trail riding get studded track..jmo.. I get through the deep stuff as well as my riding partner cant believe what I put my machine through..

I've got a 1" kimpex ultimate traction with 144 studs. I ride the same trails as you and it works pretty good. I had a 1 inch predator before. I think the kimpex hooks up better.

Doing a 136 on a Viper makes an awesome ride. Revalve the shocks for your weight and driving style = even better ride.
The one thing to watch out for is the skis. I fought for a long time to get the skis to bite in the corners again after 136'ing my Viper. The factory mounts points don't allow for the added extension and screws the geometry of the sled. I finally ened up with Apex skis and aggressive Snowtrackers to fix my cornering issue. Rode and cornered in the trails like a champ.
If I were to do it again I would get measurements from a 136 Pro-action skid and mirror those mount points. This would make it a true 136 setup and I think it would make it easier to dial in the sled.

Hartmann makes a great kit and its easy to install.
You can look at my 136 build here if you like.

Side note: Ended up removing the drop brackets after I put the Snowtrackers and Apex skis on.

If you want the best of both worlds go with a Ice Ripper XT.Its a 1.25" lug ripsaw with carbide tips premolded in track. No worries about damaging heat exchangers and you still have some traction on ice.Long tracks ride better also just depends how much you want to spend.Let me know and i'll put together a package.

I have the 1.25" iceripper on my SRX and have put 5000 miles on it. First off I will never ever ever ever run any track less than 1.25 on the trails again, they make a huge difference. I don't lake race, I don't do high speed runs, I want 20mph-60mph corner to corner performance and this track has worked great for that. Even after 5000 miles I still have good penetration from the molded studs. My track literally still looks like brand new. It isn't as aggressive as 144 picks but it's a nice compromise and you don't have to worry about torn out studs, taking out a heat exchanger or all that extra rotating weight. Even if you don't go with the iceripper, get a 1.25".

I really like the ultimate traxion also, the cobra tracks have been beyond my expectation also.

If you are only running trails. Get a 1 inch with 144 down the middle. You can do 96, but youll have more of a problem with breaking studs or pull thrus with less studs. 1.25 on the trail wont hook any better, just going to make you lose top speed, not to mention fitment problems with a 1.25 and not being able to stud safely.

I put a 1" hacksaw on the wifes Viper with 144 woodys up the middle. It seems to do real good. I will admit I am tempted to try the Ice ripper on My viper, but it's not that I'm not happy with the Hacksaw setup at all.

many thanks for the input.

I hope my decision was the right one for my riding area/style; hart 136 kit .. 1.25 unstud ripsaw.

i feel the viper is a worthy ride to continue to maintain and run for many years. Despite the leaps and bounds sleds have made today. ..at the end of the day, I am still no closer to financing a new sled... soooo the viper is the winner.. take care of it. run it. dial it. . season after season. braaaap

we all know what its like to make a purchase and say oh $% .. what did i just do ... but hope thats not the case. looking forward to see what personality this will reveal in the on girl after what i was used to for the last 5000 miles. .. never owned a longer track sled before .. been living on 121's

You will love the long track. I went 144" and it made a world of difference on and off trail. Ill never ride a 121 again. I shouldnt say that cause i remember a time when i said ill never want or need to ride a long track and now i wouldnt ride without it.

Hey Chris,
Do you have any problems with the front end not biting or pushing because of the long track? or do the C&A's cover it no problem? Thanks

will every thrid clipped be ok?

i decided to go with every third clipped. is this going to pose a problem with slipping on 9 tooth drivers . 5000 miles. the track again is a 1.25 unstudded ripsaw.

hope. i suppose if i need to clip the remaining windows i can? .. or did i just order the wrong track. its only 120 hp and i never beat the sled.. hoping the drivers are ok to keep running with this new track.

Front end bites just fine. I have even removed some ski pressure. I was really worried about lack of ski pressure with the long track but its fine. Not sure if its the c&a razors, the Bergstrom triple points or doing skid set up per btv but it corners better then it did at 121.

The track will be fine. Keep the proper tension in it and it will not rachet.
Will you need to cut the track down where it lines up with the tunnel protectors.

Really, the tunnel protectors will rub also?
I'm aware of the front cooler protectors rubbing but not the tunnel protectors. ... Plans are to remove part of the cooler protectors instead of clipping the track
