Well I created a monster. After getting my 02 Viper a few weeks ago and taking my wife out for her first ride ever she really liked it. She's started talking about getting her own machine. I saw some pretty good deals online of a few 2000 Yamaha Phazers (v max chassis). It would seem to be a good machine to learn on. Just wondering what people thought about these.

i talk ol lady into a 2000 sxr 500 nice sled handles like a dream little slow off the line but still great lttle sled
good luck

I bought a Venture 700 for my girlfriend.. Handles good, longer track, comfortable ride, lots of power for her, stable machine, and she can let it rip when she gets on the rivers or lakes. Has electric start and reverse and handles the bumps well.. It tops out at about 90 mph.. She loves it and I dont mind riding it as well..lol...

After her riding your Viper you probably spoiled her.. lol I would look for a sxr, what size would depend on how good she can ride and if you can trust her..besides she'll want a sled that looks fast :sled2:

I bought a 500 2000 phazer for the wife and used it as a back up sled. It was an awsome sled, 460 pds, tons of mid range pull up to 75 mph and would top out around 86 but you could hold her there all day, bullet proof, never had to do any maintenance other then cleaning the carbs. The one thing I did was put some after market skiis on, and she could rail in the trails with any machine.Had reverse which I should have taken out before I sold it and put on the SRX. There real simple and you get alot of sled for the money.

Woulda bought another srx 600 or 700 u can teach her to lean but a 500 should be plenty!

buy her a viper er and put an m10 in it with tuner or arrow skis. very important to make the ladies comfortable or they wont ride.

Hey thanx for all the good info out there. I'm trying to keep in mind what she would like and not what I like. She has no experience at all so I thought a light air cooled machine like the Phazer might be good to learn on. I remember the old fairing mounted Phazers and they were good solid easy to ride machines. I did see some v-max 700's around hear, but I just don't want to start her out with something too big and get her hurt on it. She wants to try my viper to see if she can handle a sled, but I'm afraid with the Bender pipes its just too much. She's not to coordinated so it makes me nervous. I did have a sxr 700 that was a smooth machine and maybe she'd be ok with something like that. It does cost more to buy something small then upgrade it shortly afterwards. It would be nice to have her do it with me, and riding 2-up on a Viper is kinda tough on both of us. I do want to get her a Yamaha though with their build quality and reliability their great machines. Thanx again for the info on machines I've never thrown a leg over before.

I bought my wife a 2004 Viper ER and she just loved it.. I found a few year old one and BOUGHT ANOTHER FOR ME....I gave up driving like an IDIOT and just CRUISE with that 2004 Viper ER..... Really soft suspension and enough power to move out.... Black and Silver to boot !!!

I would look for a sxr 600 or 700, My wife has a 500, and she loves it, but I hate putting gas and oil in it, uses twice the oil my srx does, and 3-4 mpg worse gas mileage, but the sled handles and rides very nice, she loves it. The phazer would be nice also, but they are kind of hard to come by around these parts.

Another vote for the Viper for her. I did tyhe same thing last year. I bought mine a Zl artic cat and built myself a nice Viper. Well after I let her ride mine the Cat was for sale and I was looking for another Viper for me. It's a great sled and having both the same is real handy for service and spare parts. My wife was totally new to snowmobiling and she does fine on her Viper. Just my $.02

My wife has a 99 sx vmax and like shrader said eats gas and oil. I would look at a 600 Venom. If I get the chance thats what I would find my wife. 500 great learner but she will out grow it soon enough.
