how to replace the seal on the pump ? at 11k its been seeping for some time on and off . maybe time to change it . what is the best way to get at it

Pull the engine is the easiest way to really get at that stuff. If its never been repaired it most likely needs a full rebuild Which consist of a updated shaft, oil seal, mechanical seal, new impeller and a the seal washer that goes on the impeller bolt. Its really not a hard job once the engine is out and tipped up to where you can get to everything. Any questions just ask as several of us on here have done these.....

no shaft doesn't to come out to do it.I have done it when my motor was out,but easy to do with engine in also. You have to get the lip of the mech seal to bend inward around it and eventually you can just pop it off.It will be destroyed by the time it gets off.Just watch you don't slip with a screwdriver and nick anything around it.To re install you use a socket the same diameter and tap it back in.A lot of times it will be that washer seal that causes the leak. That seal should be replaced everything you can the seal.First time you do it will be a little hard, but understand you weaken the sides of the seal by taping it inward and down. This will take the pressure of the fitment and then you can either pry it out with a screwdriver or use vise grips to grab it and pull..the impeller should be fine,no need to replace unless it is all chewed up or something..just ask questions as you go along..that was what I did and like I said it is kinda difficult the first time because you don't know what your dealing with..but it will come out.

Your a life saver! So its leakking out the weeping hole. Your saying it will be the o-ring at the end of the impeller? Could the mechanical seal cause it to leak out the weepiong hole?

youlle want to pull the impeller off, clean up threads and aplly some green loctite, let it set up before filling with coolant, the ceramic seal is right there too, mechanical seal comes out easy enough to replace it,little vaseline on the washer seal and blue loctite on bolt, most of the work is just getting access to it all

So what do I need to order? Mechanical seal, ceramic washer, oring and case gasket? How much is the o ring

the cover gasket should be fine to reuse. That little washer is like $14,dealer more.Mech seal/ceramic is in a kit together ,maybe $21,dealer more..
I purchase my stuff from the US,way cheaper over all even with tax and delivery if you buy a lot of stuff. But if you only buy a few things it will cost more..so maybe the stealership, it is your only choice..
I usually make a list of stuff I will be needing for the next season ahead of time, things that need more replacing,or extra parts for spare. Then when I order in the Summer..the shipping will hurt as much.I always like to carry spares for most important stuff. That way when something goes,I usually have it on hand.
Some examples of stuff I have as extras:head/cyl o-rings, thermostat,PV cables,extra skid parts,CDI,exhaust donuts,servo motor..etc..

picked them up at a great cost.Already I had to use my spare stator..CDI can come in handy one day also when needed.I like to keep spares of important stuff that would be hard or expensive to pu when you actually do need it.

I don't know, but seems like there were a lot of stator issues this season and lots of electrical.Seems as sleds are getting older..these issues prevail for some reason. Some of Yamaha's downfalls I guess..they should maybe get better electrical engineers working for them.
