depending on how stuck they are in the carbs, most times its easy to remove and replace, except for the wallet. account for the 0-ring seals at the bottom.
i would suggest testing all four solenoids. you just need a quality multimeter and a 12v power source.
if i remember correctly, if the solenoid(s) arent functioning properly, the system goes into somewhat of a "limp mode" basically rendering the smart carbs useless and returning them to somewhat of a regular carb. probably use more fuel or have poor performance. if jetted correctly and not on the edge, leaning out hopefully wont be an issue.
