I haven't had to mess too much with my speedo cables in the past other than when I changed my track but the 01 SRX I bought in October didn't have a speedo on it.The guy drag raced the sled so he had an EGT on it instead so I decided to put a speedo back in and Saturday was the first chance I've had to do this task.Well I got everything switched over and hooked up and decided to make sure it was working so I fire up the sled and run the track around to check the readout, nothing.HUH? I made sure the key was tight in the axle before putting all that together and the drive was working. The cable was in a box of parts I got so I assumed it was good BUT come to find out the damned thing is stuck.I've got it soaking in penetrating oil now but in all the years I've had my sleds I can't say as I've ever seen one seized up or stuck before.

Can't say I have either on a sled but I have fixed plenty of cars with frozen/sticky speed-o cables (yeah, I know - I'm dating myself).

I think you're on the right track as far a soaking it in penatrating oil to get it freed up. In the automotive world, it was common to disconnect the cable from the back of the cluster then pull the inner cable out, clean/lube and reinstall. Never did it on a sled but it should be the same.

Yup that speedo cable should pull right out of the sleeve. Just did this on my xtc. Thought speedo key went out as speedometer was not working. Come to find out part that goes into speedo came out. So pulled the whole thing and cleaned.
