I've read a lot on guys changing there gearing up and I may be interested I near future. If I gear down most likely for the mountains will this affect my clutching does anything need to change there? Also how far down is a good ratio I don't know much just from what I've read on here looking for advice on what size sprockets to go with. thanks guys!

Need more info here...

Elevation?
Off trail?
Track size and lug height?
Sled Mods?
9 or 8 tooth drivers?

Typically a sled used in the Mountains will use at least a 2:1 gear ratio ie: 20/40 and thats with 9 tooth drivers.

Ya sorry man elevation is between 5000 and 7000 feet and in deep powder 6 plus feet definitely off trail riding for the most part. I haven't looked at 8 or 9 tooth drivers but I will tonight I thinks 9 i have a dropped and rolled chain case with a 144" x 2" track. I went back to stock reeds and have an mbrp can and possibly a gutted air box (that I'm not sure about but there's no dividers in there) I am not sure of my current gearing but I don't think it is stock I didn't want to take it apart until I bought new gears. Also can a stock chain work with say 20/40 gearing or 21/42?

What is stock gearing for a 98 mountain srx 700 ? And how far should I step down I'm just not sure if clutching is affected and how drastic of a change each tooth is any help?

I'm just wondering how dramatic the changes are say a one tooth change an whether or not to keep the ratio the same or if changing it could benefit me in the bottom end
