So Yamaha got the chassis, will cat get the 1000cc Genesis and turbo it for there production sleds ? Will Yamaha Engineers influence the new motor for Cat next year ? When does the new Cat sled unveil ? The future is BRIGHT boys !!!
I read Feb. 26th for the new Cats. As far as a Yamaha motor in Cat's production sled, well I'll leave this for some reading. http://www.arcticinsider.com/Article/FACT-Arctic-Cat--Yamaha-Expand-Snowmobile-Relationship

Cat will use a yammie motor in their sleds. The engineering has already been done. I'd bet on a green version of the new rs viper. Not hard to imagine really. Its just under plastic differences from the viper to the cat from 2013. I would also be shocked if cast does not have a boosted version of this nytro motored cat for 2015.

Cat is in financial trouble and them teaming with yamahs is purely a bail out,now its to my understanding it would cost more to design a new chassis build it and ship it to north america than it would be to use the cat chassis. And from whats been said the cat chassis is a very good product overall its their motors that are the weak link. From what i hear this setup should work pretty good and being powered by the genesis motor it should be bulletproof.
My guess is yamaha will buy cat then you will see yami motors in cats

Cat would be going bankrupt if Yamaha didn't help them..but hope Yamaha doesn't screw themselves at the same time (using Cat drivetrain and such)..because if things start to break down on the new Viper..buyer will back off with both of them.I think you are still going to see big sales increase's with BRP.They have the money and they are advancing every year.Kinda like the 800 TNT they have this year..I would try that one if I had to look for a different sled..

My brother and I were riding today, and got a awesome surprise!! We were in Palmerston,ON at a subway and new YamaCat went by. We went and talked to the rider, he works for Yamaha. The Viper he had was the mountain version with 141" track. He said its a prototype, the clutching and mapping still needed to be tweaked. According to the VIN it was #21. We both sat on it, and talked about the different models. The guy was cool, didn't catch his name though.
The pictures don't do the sled justice, the white tunnel and blue panels look so good.

Looks like CAT will use a Nytro motor but is among several motor options
7000 ™
135-Class Horsepower
This clean 1049cc 4-stroke triple produces 135-class leading horsepower and delivers excellent fuel economy. And EFI optimizes performance in all temperatures and altitudes.

they are on to something.. We might see the high HP Apex motor in a 475LB chassis in the near future
Personally, the whole thing just makes me sick....but that's just me.
Yamaha has the resources, the technology, and the engineering to do anything that Cat, or anyone else can do, chassis-wise. In my honest opinion better. In a more well put together, more reliable package. This "merger", if you will is just....lazy, for lack of a better term. The Japanese aren't known to be lazy, or do things half-assed.
I just don't get it.
Unless..... Cat came to them over this whole lawsuit thing. Lawsuit is against Cat. If Yamaha ultimately acquires Cat, then Cat doesn't exist anymore, and the lawsuit is history? I'm no lawyer, and I may be wrong, but that's the only sense I can make of any of it.
Yamaha gets whatever chassis technology they want from Cat, and Cat, in a way, gets saved.....again.
Who knows? I'm just thinking out loud.....

sort of stealing r motion tech, some device to keep motor from twisting putting belts out of alignment..but that don't work both brands still blow belts.I saw a belt o n the river this past weekend,,it was blown in so many pieces it was funny. It wasn't a Yamaha belt..

what that suit really was about, imho, was doo being afraid of what cat was coming out with and trying to bury a small company in lawyer fees. the suit had very little basis (you cant patent an idea, only a SPECIFIC way of carrying it out. ie: you cant patent rider forward) and only forced cat to stop or slow down, and lose capital on paying lawyers. I thought it was similar with yamaha and their side by sides. slowed them down and cost a lot of $$

Now polaris is suing brp. I think this is for suspension patent infringement.

Yea....saw that too. These guys are all suing each other from time to time. BRP is the only one I can ever remember making a big fuss over it with a press release and whatnot over the suit though.
Polaris should talk. They have built everything they are now on stolen technology. From trailing arms to powervalves to their initial cast aluminum bulkheads. I'm sure the list goes on.....
I worked at a dealership during the meat of the ProAction cast aluminum bulkhead days, and sure didn't take long for everyone to jump on that bandwagon, with Polaris leading the way. I remember laughing at them when all of a sudden there was a cast bulkhead, and powervalves when they started making their own motors.
Although, I don't think anything ever came of that back then. Yamaha must not be into suing people.

Polaris was making trailing arm sleds in the original Indy sleds from the late 70s to early 80's depending on if you count race sleds compared to consumer sleds. Cast bulkhead? That's just a natural progression of making things lighter and more rigid. Power valves? Those came on MX bikes in the mid 80's. If you want to see where a lot of the stored advancements come from, look at the motorcycle industry.GD23RTF2 said:Yea....saw that too. These guys are all suing each other from time to time.
